Roxana Dickinson Sampler
This small sampler dated 1806, was worked by Roxana Dickinson at the age of thirteen. The charted work is taken from the original which belongs to the collection of Historic Northampton. Reproduced by Kathleen B. Smith, Textile Reproductions.

Thomas Jewett Sampler

Reclining Shepherdess Kit
This is a reproduction of a tentstitch picture in the collection of Historic Northampton. Worked about 1750-55 by Esther Stoddard (1738-1816), it is a well preserved example of a common form of school needlework. It is worked entirely in tent stitch in wool & silk. The design is printed in permanent black ink on 18 count unbleached linen. Hand-spun yarns are colored by natural dyes.

Crewelwork Pocket
Worked entirely in shades of blue and white, this pocket is a delightful example of classic 18th-century design & workmanship. It is reproduced by Kathleen B. Smith, Textile Reproductions from an original in the collection of Historic Northampton. The kit contains the materials for working & constructing the pocket: indigo-dyed wool yarn, linen fabric, binding fabric & a needle. Finished pocket measures approximately 13 1/4" x 19".

Historical Models

The Hookes' Regular Sing by Northampton Harmony.
Northampton Harmony is well known for their music from the venerable Sacred Harp and other shape-note compilations of colonial and camp-meeting hymns and arrangements of American traditional and popular songs. This latest recording features selections from their own extensive research into music from the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. Recorded at the monthly community singing that gives the album its name.
