Worked about 1750-55 by Esther Stoddard (1738-1816), it is a well preserved example of a common form of school needlework. It is worked entirely in tent stitch in wool & silk. The design is printed in permanent black ink on 18 count unbleached linen. Hand-spun yarns are colored by natural dyes.

Smith, Textile Reproductions from an original in the collection of Historic Northampton. The kit contains the materials for working & constructing the pocket: indigo-dyed wool yarn, linen fabric, binding fabric & a needle. Finished pocket measures approximately 13 1/4" x 19".
